Where Coffee Meets Community
OCA Mocha is a shared, multi-purpose space that fosters ongoing engagement between UMBC and its neighboring communities and promotes economic development in southwestern Baltimore County. By fostering social opportunities and economic development, OCA Mocha serves as a catalyst to create and maintain genuine relationships between UMBC and its surrounding communities.
- Opportunities for Community Alliances (OCA) is UMBC’s presence in the space. It includes a community art gallery, performance stage, meeting room/study space, and office. OCA’s goal is to connect UMBC’s resources to our neighboring communities through community engagement and outreach activities, by participating in community organizations and events, and by sponsoring arts, cultural, educational, and other programming. OCA also oversees an internship program for UMBC students; the interns support OCA’s community engagement efforts.
- Mocha, the coffee shop, is sub-leased to an alumni-owned small business, OCA Mocha, LLC
Check out this video to learn about how a group of UMBC entrepreneurship students came together to create OCA Mocha and how their idea became a reality that will bolster UMBC’s relationship with its neighboring communities for years to come.
